La popular canción que dejo a continuación está asociada con la huelga textil de Lawrence (Massachusetts), entre enero y marzo de 1912, denominada la "huelga de pan y rosas", apelando tanto por salarios justos como por condiciones dignas de trabajo. Esta huelga luchaba contra el recorte salarial de dos horas en la jornada laboral de las mujeres.

En el film "Pride" (2014), del director británico Matthew Warchus, donde se cuenta el apoyo de un grupo de activistas gays y lesbianas a la lucha de los mineros contra el gobierno Thatcher (1984), hay una secuencia donde se canta esta popular canción feminista obrera.
